The dictionary defined addiction as a state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that psychologically or physically generates habits, to such extent that its ceasation causes severe trauma. My own definition of addiction is the state of knowingly doing the wrong thing and your physical senses tells you it is the right thing.
There are basically 2 types of addiction. Addiction can be positive or negative. A positive addiction is when that addiction influences you positively. For example; addiction to reading books. A negative addiction simply influences you negatively. For example; addiction to tobacco and negative music. I will be zooming in on the negative side of addiction.
Scientifically, addiction to certain products like tobacco, coffee etc. is as a result of a particular chemical agent called nicotine. There is no scientific explanation whatsoever for some kind of addiction such as music or playing games because they are behavioral addictions.
Music is a food to the soul which has been proven overtime as every age range of humans listen to one form of music or the other. Even Almighty God enjoys music and that’s why we worship and praise him through music.
Music has an origin in the heavens when Lucifer the fallen angel led the heavenly host in worshiping God. God created music for only one purpose which is to worship Him alone and that was Lucifer`s job until he coveted the throne of God and was casted out of heaven.
In the world today, music has been broadly distinguished into two types: secular and gospel music. Simply the difference between the two types of music is that the latter is made to worship the Lord which is the main purpose of music.
Previously, I mentioned that Lucifer was the worship leader in heaven before he was casted out. You cannot expect him to stop singing and worshipping after he was casted out and also you cannot expect him to still worship God. What we can only expect is that he will use music to worship himself. Satan does not give talent of singing but all he does is to kill your love for worshipping God, steal your music talent and finally destroy you. What he does is to deceive you from using your God given talents to worship him and to deceive others. From my analysis, I can boldly say that music has been one of the greatest tools used by Satan to deceive many.
Music is a spirit and that is why it is addictive, the moment you start listening to the wrong music, it takes over your soul and you see yourself doing what you are listening to and this continues like that. Sometimes we know we are listening to the wrong messages but we cannot just stop, that is the sign of addiction.
When you listen to songs that contain worldly word, you cannot help it but to be attracted by the things of this world. Apostle Paul said in 2 corinthians 10:3 that though we live in the world, we are not carrying on a worldly war. Some people complain that gospel music is substandard and does not give the same kind of happy mood like secular songs. I tell u that is a lie of the devil to you. It’s because your eyes are covered with a veil. There are so many gospel songs out there that are of standard and u can dance anyhow to worship your maker.
Lets analyze together, we all know now that the only one purpose of music is to worship God and we know we cannot serve God and mammon together, so what is the point of listening to music that will do us no good, some people go as far to sing the negative confessions in the song to themselves and later they will complain that a witch is on their case not knowing they have used the power on their tongue to do harm to their life through singing.
People let us not deceive ourselves, there are wicked spirits and demons that are behind some kind of music and that is the only way people get addicted to negative music and it in turn has a negative influence on their lives. Oh I know you will ask what about being addicted to positive music, oh yea please ask yourself is it bad to get addicted to worshiping your maker. The bible says let him that has Breath praise the Lord. So far we are living it is our duty to do that and when you are addicted to it, it only gets better and you are sure to have the positive influence of the Holy Spirit around you.
Finally, if you know that you are caught in this bondage, there is a way out, Praise the Lord, It is written we are more than conqueror through him who loved us(Rom8:37). Now is the time to win this battle over addiction to negative music. All you need to do is to follow these steps; it is very simple and easy.
1) Be born again: You need to give your life to Christ and accept Christ by faith
2) Repent of sinful deeds: You need a true repentance from listening to negative music
3) Get rid of every negative music on your phones, laptop and all gadgets
4) Create a new passion for the kind of music that worships God
5) Meditate and confess the word continually to maintain your victory over negative music.
